Seven doses from COVID-19 vaccine vials
To support the urge of citizens being vaccinated a team of four Danish researchers, engineers and entrepreneurs from the startup RobinTech have developed RobinVac, which is a digital COVID-19 vaccine extractor that pulls out seven doses from COVID-19 vaccine vials, instead of the current six doses. Available now in Europe and soon also in the US, Asia and South America, the patent pending COVID-19 vaccine extractor, has the potential to significantly speed up of the vaccination program.
Key benefits using RobinVac
RobinVac extracts seven doses out of a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine vial, instead of only six
RobinVac is a patent pending system consisting of a digital extraction unit combined with a particular procedure developed to surely extract seven doses from COVID-19 vaccine vials. The procedure used with the extraction unit is very specific, however composed exclusively of well-known and already used pharmaceutical operations. RobinVac is developed and tested by RobinTech, a team of Danish doctors, medical engineers and industrial designers in a close cooperation with Danish Health Authorities.
Tested in collaboration with the capital region of Denmark
RobinTech has been tested at two Danish vaccination locations in Copenhagen, Denmark. The tests supported the conclusions from laboratory studies and confirmed that RobinVac enables the vaccinators to pull out seven doses from COVID-19 vaccine vials, instead of six doses. The tests were performed in collaboration with the Capital Region of Denmark.

Other benefits using RobinVac
Compatible with standard 1 mL syringes
As there is not sufficient volume to extract six doses from a single vial, using standard syringes, vaccinators use low-dead-volume syringes. With RobinVac you can pull out the seven doses using standard 1 mL syringes or low dead-volume syringes, by choice. Thus, the optimization of the highly urgent vaccine effort does not depend on the availability of a specific type of syringe.
User-friendly and easy to incorporate into existing COVID 10-vaccine settings
RobinVac is easy to use and complies with all COVID-19 vaccine procedures. Thus, RobinVac is easy to incorporate to existing COVID-19 vaccination settings, as the way you pull the vaccine out of the vial, only slightly differs from current procedures. Tests at two Danish vaccination locations, also confirmed that the vaccinators very quickly become familiar with RobinVac and can easily use RobinVac by following the instruction video and the detailed written instructions that is accompanying the digital extractor.
Extracting COVID-19 vaccines from vials is five times faster
Using RobinVac, it is five times faster to pull out the COVID-19 vaccines from the vials, compared to current method. Tests at two Danish COVID-19 vaccination locations, showed that using RobinVac, the vaccinators can withdraw the seven doses in only three minutes.
In other words, it only takes 25 seconds to pull out a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. That is no less than five times faster.
Reduces mechanical stress on mRNA vaccine
mRNA vaccines contain strands of genetic materials. The genetic materials are protected by a special coating. It is important not to stress the coating, as stress easily initiates a degradation process. Filing up the syringes from each vaccine vial involves different mechanical steps that potentially stresses the vaccine. RobinVac shields the vaccines from unintended stress. Thus reducing mechanical stress.
Standard aseptic procedures
RobinVac is compatible with standard aseptic techniques (sterile technique) and supports the non-touch technique, which means that all sterile procedures are maintained, using of RobinVac to pull out the seven doses from COVID-19 vaccine vials.
Reduces risk of needle damage
RobinVac reduces the risk of vaccines being wasted due to needle damage. This is of course related to the fact that you cannot use syringes with damaged needles, and you also cannot just replace the needle, but have to discard it.
Correct handling of bubbles in syringes
Air bubbles in a vaccine syringe is problematic, as they affect the accuracy of the dosage. The air bubbles, especially large air bubbles, create a risk of under-dosing. As these air bubbles are time-consuming to handle, the vaccinators carefully have to follow a range of time-wasting procedures, when filling the syringes. RobinVac handles the air bubbles and streamlines the vaccinators’ work.
Improved dose accuracy
The effect of the COVID-19 vaccine depends on several factors - including the amount that is injected into the body. The amount must be very precisely 0.3 mL. Too little vaccine reduces its effect, and too much vaccine will cause many vaccines to be unnecessarily wasted. RobinVac ensures that each syringe always is filled with exactly 0.3 mL of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Improved ergonomics
Filling the syringes at the COVIDE-19 vaccine locations, requires that the vaccinators perform a series of non-ergonomic movements. With RobinVac, the vaccinators avoid a range of activities related to filing a syringe, which improves the ergonomics of the vaccinators.
